Are you planning on going on a trip soon? When you have Invisalign, you need to put a little bit of extra thought into your packing. It is a lot easier to wear and maintain your aligners when you aren’t on the go from one place to another. However, it’s important that you stay on track so that you don’t fall behind. Here are some tips to help your travel plans go smoothly when you have Invisalign.
Pack Accordingly
You always bring a toothbrush and toothpaste on your tips. When you have Invisalign, this is especially important. You must keep your teeth clean and maintain your treatment. In addition to your toothbrush and toothpaste, remember to pack floss, mouthwash, your Invisalign case, and any other tools you use to clean your aligners. Make a list or note on your phone so you don’t forget anything.
Maintain a Routine
As much as you want to completely let go of all of your duties when you are on vacation, you should still maintain a good oral hygiene routine. This is especially the case if you have Invisalign. Remember to continue to brush your teeth at least twice a day and always floss at night. Try to keep your aligners in for at least 22 hours each day. For some patients, it helps to set a timer while eating and drinking so you know you aren’t falling behind.
Be Careful About Tap Water
Depending on the location that you are traveling to, you may or may not be able to safely drink the tap water. If you can’t drink it, you don’t want to use it to brush your teeth either. If you aren’t in doubt, you should brush your teeth using bottled water instead.
Bring Extra Aligners
If you are going to be gone for a few weeks, chances are that you might need to move on to your next set of aligners to stay on track. It is a good idea to take them with you. If you decide to extend your stay, you don’t need to stress about keeping up with your treatment.
Have a Pre-Vacation Appointment
Has it been a while since your last progress check? If so, it might be wise to schedule your next one ahead of your trip. Have you recently seen your dentist? If so, give them a call and let them know that you are travelling. This way, they can offer some extra advice.
Your Invisalign treatment shouldn’t hold you back when you are traveling. By following these tips, you can stay on top of your treatment while enjoying your trip!
